This month's issue of Prevention magazine says that this simple task, uses a technique known as 'grounding', which can help bring your brain and body back to the present.
Psychologist Vaile Wright says that it's a "distraction technique" and can free you from "any overwhelming feelings and unhealthy thoughts spinning in your head".
Interestingly, naming ice cream flavours instead of another list of items adds a level of comfort and nostalgia that other topics can't reach, researchers say.
